ENDA - You Can Help!
Thanks to the tireless lobbying effort of our allies and sister organizations. We are getting closer to victoryand YOU can help make the difference.
We must take advantage of this amazing opportunity to win civil rights for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans. We need every person to take action. Your voice could be the one that makes the difference in getting a vote we need in Washington, D.C.
This is a critical moment and activists on the Capitol Hill are facing resistance from voices who simply fail to understand what is at stake.
What can you do?
There are many things you can do to help over the next seven days:
Contact your member of the U.S. House of Representatives today.
• To find your Representative, go to http://www.house.gov and enter your zip code at the top of the page or call the Toll-Free U.S. Capitol Switchboard at 888-802-1207 and ask for your Representative's office.
• You don't have to go to D.C. to visit your Representatives – each has a local office. Anyone can call for an appointment or just drop by during office hours. If the Representative is not there, speak to their staff and leave a note! You can also contact your state LGBT organization to find out more about their work with your Representative.
• Ask your Representative to support H.R. 2015, the bill that will provide employment protections for both sexual orientation and gender identity.
Spread the word!
• Forward the petition ( http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/transgender_inclusive_ENDA ) to your families, friends and allies; ask them to join you in supporting a trans-inclusive bill that protects ALL lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people from employment discrimination.
• Blog, write to the editor, or speak out about why this is important and what people can do about it. Important blogs to respond to include wockner.blogspot.com ; www.americablog.com; www.planetout.com ; www.baywindows.com; www.gay.com ; www.salon.com and www.washblade.com .
• Share the ENDA information with any churches or congregations you attend.
• Forward this email or emails from other organizations you are a part of to folks you know and let them know why you need their support right now.
Join Unite ENDA!
• Ask organizations that you are a part of to join with us on United ENDA. They can sign the statement in support of a transgender inclusive ENDA by sending an email to Lisa Mottet of the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force at lmottet@thetaskforce.org .
• Thank your organizations, unions, and employers if they have already signed on to the project; let them know that their stance is appreciated and the right thing to do.
Support the Movement for Transgender Equality!
• Become a monthly donor of National Center for Transgender Equality or the Transgender Law Center, you can support our ongoing work in transforming this country into a safe place for all gender-variant people and to achieve full equality for transgender and gender non-conforming people.
• Be proud of what we've accomplished and know that you are a part of the movement to bring civil rights to all.
